Emotional Intelligence

Develop emotional awareness and management skills

What Is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, and to understand how others feel. People with high EQ can handle stress, resolve conflicts, and build strong relationships.
Example

Using Emotional Intelligence

Self-awareness: 'I feel angry because my friend broke my pencil.' Self-management: 'I will take a deep breath before I react.' Empathy: 'My friend looks sad — I will ask if they are okay.' Social skills: 'Let us talk about this calmly.'
Note

Remember

You cannot always control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond. Pause before reacting — this gives your brain time to choose a better response.
