Reflect, translate and rotate 2D shapes
Transformations of 2D Shapes
A transformation changes a shape's position or direction. There are three types: translation (slide), reflection (flip), and rotation (turn). The shape stays the same size and shape — only its position changes.
Example
Types of Transformations
Translation (slide): Move the shape left, right, up or down without turning it.
Reflection (flip): Flip the shape over a mirror line — like looking in a mirror.
Rotation (turn): Turn the shape around a fixed point — like spinning a wheel.
Example
Real-Life Examples
Translation: Sliding a book across a desk.
Reflection: Your reflection in a mirror.
Rotation: Hands on a clock turning around the centre.
Note
Remember
After any transformation, the shape does NOT change size. It stays congruent (same shape and size). Only the position or direction changes.
