Understand the dangers of substance abuse

Dangers of Substance Abuse

Substances like tobacco, alcohol, and drugs can damage your body and brain. Smoking harms your lungs and heart. Alcohol affects your brain and can lead to bad decisions. Drugs can be addictive, meaning your body craves them even though they are harmful.
Example

Saying No

If someone offers you a cigarette, alcohol, or drugs, you can say: 'No thanks, I don't do that.' Walk away from the situation. Spend time with friends who make good choices. Talk to a trusted adult if you feel pressured.
Note

Remember

It takes courage to say no, but protecting your health is always the right choice. Your brain is still developing and substances can cause lasting damage to a young person.
