Saving Money

Understand the importance of saving and budgeting

Learning About Money

Money is used to buy things we need and want. South African money includes coins (R1, R2, R5) and banknotes (R10, R20, R50, R100, R200). Saving means keeping some money for later instead of spending it all at once.
Example

Needs vs Wants

Needs are things you must have: food, water, clothes, a home. Wants are things that are nice to have but not essential: sweets, toys, games. If you get R20, you could save R10 and spend R10. Over time, your savings grow!
Note

Remember

Use a piggy bank or savings jar to save coins. Even small amounts add up over time. Making a plan for your money is called budgeting — it helps you spend wisely.
