Energy Sources

Learn about different sources of energy

Where Energy Comes From

Energy makes things work. We use energy to light our homes, cook food, and power cars. Energy comes from different sources: the sun gives us heat and light, coal and gas are burned to make electricity, and wind and water can also generate power.
Example

Energy in South Africa

Eskom uses coal to make most of South Africa's electricity. Solar panels on rooftops turn sunlight into electricity. Wind farms in the Eastern and Western Cape use wind to generate power.
Note

Remember

Save energy at home: switch off lights when you leave a room, close the fridge door quickly, and unplug devices that are not in use.
