Narrative Writing

Write narratives with clear structure and detail

What is a Narrative?

A narrative is a story. It has characters (who), a setting (where and when), and a plot (what happens). A good narrative has a clear beginning, middle, and end, with interesting details that make the reader want to keep reading! 📝
Example

Story Plan

Title: The Magic Garden 🌻 Characters: Lerato and her grandmother Setting: A garden in Soweto Beginning: Lerato finds a mysterious seed. Middle: She plants it and a giant sunflower grows overnight! End: The whole neighbourhood comes to see the magic garden.
Note

Writing Tips

Use time words: first, then, next, after that, finally. Add dialogue (talking): 'Look at this!' said Lerato. Describe what characters see, feel, and hear. Give your story an exciting title! ✨

Editing Your Story

After writing, read your story again. Check for capital letters and full stops. Fix any spelling mistakes. Ask yourself: Does my story make sense? Is it interesting? Read it to a friend! 👫
