Reading Strategies

Use strategies such as predicting, skimming and scanning

Reading Strategies

Good readers use strategies to understand what they read. Three important strategies are: predicting (guessing what will happen next), skimming (reading quickly to get the main idea), and scanning (looking for specific information). 📖🔍
Example

Using Strategies

Predicting: Look at the title 'The Lost Puppy' — what do you think the story is about? 🐶 Skimming: Read the first sentence of each paragraph to get the main idea quickly. Scanning: Need to find a name? Move your eyes quickly through the text until you spot it!
Note

Remember

Before reading — predict what the text is about using the title and pictures. During reading — stop and check: 'Do I understand?' After reading — think about the main idea and important details. 🧠
