Time: Hours & Minutes

Read time in hours and minutes on analogue clocks

Telling Time ⏰

A clock has two hands: the short hand shows the hour and the long hand shows the minutes. There are 60 minutes in one hour. We read the short hand first, then the long hand.
Example

Reading the Clock

When the long hand points to 12 → o'clock Short hand on 3, long hand on 12 → 3 o'clock Short hand on 7, long hand on 6 → 7:30 (half past 7) Short hand between 9 and 10, long hand on 3 → 9:15 (quarter past 9)
Example

Time in Daily Life

🌅 Wake up: 7 o'clock 📚 School starts: 8 o'clock 🍽️ Lunch: 12 o'clock (noon) 🏠 Home time: half past 2 🌙 Bedtime: 8 o'clock
Note

Remember 💡

The short hand moves slowly — it shows the hour. The long hand moves faster — it shows the minutes. When the long hand is on 12, it is exactly 'o'clock'.
