Descriptive Writing

Write descriptive sentences and short paragraphs

What is Descriptive Writing?

Descriptive writing tells the reader what something looks like, sounds like, smells like, or feels like. We use our five senses to describe things. This makes our writing come alive! 🎨
Example

Describing My Pet

Instead of: 'I have a dog.' Write: 'I have a small, fluffy dog. He has brown fur and big, dark eyes. His tail wags when he is happy.' 🐶 Can you see the dog in your mind?
Note

Use Your Senses

👁️ See: What colour? What size? 👂 Hear: What sound does it make? 👃 Smell: Does it smell nice or bad? ✋ Touch: Is it soft, hard, smooth, rough? Using your senses makes writing fun!

DescribeTo tell what something is like using details
SensesHow we experience the world: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch
