Novel, drama and poetry exam preparation

Paper 2: Literature Exam Preparation

Paper 2 is a 2-hour exam testing your knowledge of prescribed literary texts. It includes sections on the novel, drama, and poetry (set poems and an unseen poem). You choose between contextual questions and essay questions for the novel and drama sections.
Example

Contextual vs. Essay Strategy

Contextual questions: • Based on a specific extract — answer questions ranging from 1 to 4 marks. • Require close reading of the given extract plus knowledge of the broader text. • Total: 35 marks per section. Essay questions: • One broad question on character, theme, or technique — 25 marks. • Must be well-structured with introduction, body (4+ paragraphs), conclusion. • Requires in-depth knowledge and original insight. Choose the option that best suits your preparation level for each text.
