Final Oral Assessment
Prepared speech and literary conversation
Final Oral Assessment
The Grade 12 oral assessment consists of two components: a prepared speech (based on research) and a literary conversation (discussion of a prescribed text with the teacher). Together they contribute to your SBA mark. The oral assessment evaluates your ability to communicate effectively, think critically, and engage with literature.
Example
Literary Conversation Preparation
The literary conversation is an individual discussion with your teacher about a prescribed text.
Prepare by:
1. Re-reading the text and your notes.
2. Preparing discussion points on character, theme, and literary technique.
3. Formulating personal responses: 'I think the author suggests...', 'In my view...'
4. Being ready for follow-up questions: 'What evidence supports that?'
Speak confidently, refer to the text specifically, and demonstrate genuine engagement.
