What is Mass?
Mass tells us how heavy or light something is. We can feel the mass when we pick things up. A brick is heavy. A feather is light. We compare objects to find out which is heavier or lighter.

Heavy or Light?
🪨 Rock — HEAVY
🪶 Feather — LIGHT
📚 Book — medium
🎈 Balloon — very LIGHT
Which is heavier: a watermelon 🍉 or an apple 🍎? The watermelon!
Example
Balancing Activity
Use a simple balance (like a see-saw): put an apple on one side 🍎 and a banana on the other 🍌. Which side goes down? The heavier one! If both sides are level, they have the same mass.

Remember
We can compare mass by holding objects in each hand. The hand that goes down is holding the heavier object. We can also use a balance scale to compare mass.
