Copy & Extend Patterns

Recognize and copy simple patterns with objects and colours

What is a Pattern?

A pattern is something that repeats over and over again. We see patterns in colours, shapes, sounds, and actions. When we copy a pattern, we do the same thing again in the same order.
Example

Colour Patterns

🔴🔵🔴🔵🔴🔵 — Red, Blue, Red, Blue, Red, Blue. What comes next? 🔴 Red! 🟡🟢🟡🟢🟡🟢 — Yellow, Green, Yellow, Green. What comes next? 🟡 Yellow!
Example

Shape Patterns

⭐🔺⭐🔺⭐🔺 — Star, Triangle, Star, Triangle. What comes next? ⭐ Star! ⬜⬜🔵⬜⬜🔵 — Square, Square, Circle, Square, Square, Circle. What comes next? ⬜ Square!
Note

Remember

To copy a pattern: 1) Look at the first few items. 2) Find what part repeats. 3) Continue the pattern in the same order. Patterns help us predict what comes next!
