Introduction to Money

Recognize South African coins

What is Money?

Money is what we use to buy things. In South Africa we use Rands (R) and cents (c). Coins are the round metal money. Notes are the paper money. Different coins and notes have different values.
Example

South African Coins

Example

Buying Things

A sweet costs R1. You have a R2 coin. Can you buy it? Yes! You get R1 change. A pencil costs R5. You have R2 + R2 + R1 = R5. Just enough! 🎉
Note

Remember

We need money to buy things at the shop. Different coins look different and have different sizes. Always check how much something costs before you buy it!
