Count objects up to 10, recognize number symbols

What is Counting?

Counting is how we find out how many things there are. We count objects one by one: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Each number tells us how many objects we have counted.

Let's Count Together

Look at these apples: 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎 Point to each apple as you count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. There are 5 apples!

Remember

When we count, we touch or point to each object one at a time. We say one number for each object. The last number we say tells us how many there are in total.

Number Symbols

Each number has its own symbol (shape): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Learning to recognize these symbols is an important part of counting.
