Choosing Subjects for Grade 10

In Grade 9, you must choose subjects for the FET phase (Grades 10-12). This is one of the most important decisions in your school career because your subject choices determine which careers and university courses you can access.

Medicine: take Maths, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences. Engineering: Maths and Physical Sciences essential. Business: Maths or Maths Literacy plus Accounting. Law: strong language skills and History helpful. Always check university entry requirements for your chosen career.

Remember

Choose subjects based on your strengths, interests, and career goals — not because your friends are choosing them. Keep Maths (not Maths Literacy) if possible, as it opens more career doors.
