Music Performance

Prepare and perform a solo or group piece

Preparing for Performance

A music performance requires thorough preparation: choosing appropriate repertoire, practising technique, memorising or reading music, and performing with expression and confidence. Performance is the ultimate test of your musical skills — sharing your music with an audience.
Example

Performance Preparation Plan

6 weeks before: Choose piece, begin learning notes 4 weeks: Memorise (if required), work on technique 3 weeks: Add musical expression (dynamics, phrasing) 2 weeks: Practise performing for friends/family 1 week: Run-throughs, solve problem spots Day of: Warm up, breathe, focus, perform with confidence Tips: Practise performing, not just practising!
Note

Remember

Performance anxiety (stage fright) is normal. Manage it through preparation, breathing, positive self-talk and experience. The more you perform, the easier it gets. Focus on communicating the music to your audience rather than on technical perfection. Enjoy the moment!
