Creative Writing with Literary Devices
Creative writing in Grade 6 moves beyond simple storytelling. You are expected to use literary devices to make your writing vivid and engaging. These include similes, metaphors, alliteration, and personification to create pictures in the reader's mind.
Example
Using Literary Devices
Simile: 'The river flowed like a silver ribbon through the valley.'
Metaphor: 'The classroom was a zoo after the bell rang.'
Alliteration: 'Silent snakes slithered slowly.'
Personification: 'The wind whispered secrets through the trees.'
These make your writing come alive!
Note
Planning Your Story
Before writing, plan: Who are the characters? What is the conflict or problem? How is it resolved? Use a mind map or story arc. Remember to include interesting vocabulary, varied sentence lengths, and at least two literary devices.

SimileA comparison using 'like' or 'as'
MetaphorA comparison saying something IS something else
