Weather and Seasons in SA
Weather is the daily condition of the atmosphere — temperature, rainfall, wind and clouds. Climate is the average weather over many years. South Africa has different climate zones: the Western Cape has wet winters; KwaZulu-Natal has wet summers.
Example
Measuring Weather
• Thermometer: measures temperature (°C)
• Rain gauge: measures rainfall (mm)
• Wind vane: shows wind direction
• Anemometer: measures wind speed
In SA: Summer = October–March, Winter = April–September
Note
Remember
SA is in the Southern Hemisphere, so our seasons are opposite to Europe and North America. The Earth's tilt causes seasons — when the Southern Hemisphere tilts toward the Sun, we have summer.
