Research Skills
Gather and organize information from various sources
What is Research?
Research means finding out information about a topic from different sources. Sources include books, encyclopaedias, the internet, interviews, and newspapers. Good researchers use more than one source and check that the information is correct.
Example
Researching a Topic
Topic: 'Water conservation in South Africa'
1. Look in a textbook for facts about water in SA.
2. Search the internet for current statistics.
3. Read a newspaper article about water restrictions.
4. Interview a parent about how they save water at home.
Now you have information from four different sources!
Note
Organising Your Research
Write notes in your own words — do not copy! Use headings to organise information. Always record where you found the information (the source). Present your research clearly with an introduction, body, and conclusion.
