Resources and Services
Resources are things we use to meet our needs: water, electricity, food and materials. Services are things done for us: schools, hospitals, police and fire services. In South Africa, the government provides many basic services.

Resources in Our Community
Natural resources: rivers, soil, trees, minerals
Man-made resources: dams, power stations, roads
Services in SA:
• Municipality: water, refuse removal, roads
• Government: schools, clinics, police
• Private: shops, banks, taxis

Remember
Not everyone in SA has equal access to resources and services. Many rural areas still need better water supply, electricity and schools. We must use resources wisely — water is scarce in SA.
