Systems & Controls
Input, process and output in simple systems
Systems Around Us
A system is a set of parts that work together to do a job. Every system has three parts: INPUT (what goes in), PROCESS (what happens), and OUTPUT (the result). A toaster is a system: bread goes in (input), it heats up (process), toast comes out (output).
Example
Everyday Systems
Tap system: Turn handle (input) → valve opens (process) → water flows (output)
Bicycle: Push pedals (input) → chain turns wheel (process) → bike moves (output)
Kettle: Press switch (input) → element heats water (process) → hot water (output)
Note
Remember
Controls help us manage a system — like a switch that turns a light on/off, or a tap handle that controls water flow. Without controls, systems would not work properly or safely.
Key Vocabulary
SystemParts working together to perform a function
InputWhat goes into a system to make it work
