Structures

Identify strong and weak structures around us

What Are Structures?

A structure is something that has a definite shape and can support a load. Structures are all around us — buildings, bridges, tables, fences and even egg shells. Strong structures do not collapse easily.
Example

Strong vs Weak Structures

Strong: A triangle-shaped roof (triangles are very strong shapes) Weak: A flat piece of paper standing up (it falls over easily) Folding paper into a tube or triangle shape makes it much stronger!
Note

Remember

The three types of structures are: shell structures (like an egg), frame structures (like a window frame), and solid structures (like a brick wall). Each type has different strengths.
