Division as Grouping

Understand division as equal grouping and sharing

Division: Equal Sharing ➗

Division means sharing equally or making equal groups. When we divide 12 by 3, we split 12 into 3 equal groups. Each group gets 4!
Example

Sharing Equally 🍬

12 sweets shared among 3 friends: 🍬🍬🍬🍬 | 🍬🍬🍬🍬 | 🍬🍬🍬🍬 12 ÷ 3 = 4 sweets each! 20 pencils into groups of 5: ✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️ | ✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️ | ✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️ | ✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️ 20 ÷ 5 = 4 groups!

Division and Multiplication are Related!

If 3 × 4 = 12, then 12 ÷ 3 = 4 and 12 ÷ 4 = 3. Multiplication and division are opposites — like adding and subtracting!
Note

Remember 💡

Division means making equal groups. If you cannot share equally, there is a remainder — that's the leftover! Example: 13 ÷ 4 = 3 remainder 1.
