Visual Literacy

Interpret posters, signs and simple advertisements

Visual Literacy

Visual literacy means understanding messages from pictures, posters, signs, and advertisements. We learn to 'read' images just like we read words. Visuals are everywhere — road signs, food labels, posters! 🖼️👁️
Example

Reading a Sign

🛑 A red STOP sign: tells drivers to stop. ⚠️ A yellow triangle: warns of danger. 🚶 A picture of a person walking: shows where pedestrians can cross. Colours and shapes carry meaning in signs and posters!
Note

Ask These Questions

When looking at a visual text, ask: • What do I see? (colours, pictures, words) • Who is it for? (children, adults, everyone) • What is the message? (buy something, stay safe, learn something) Always look at ALL the details! 🔍
