Poetry

Read and write simple poems using rhyme and rhythm

What is Poetry?

A poem is a special type of writing. Poems often have rhyming words, a rhythm (beat), and are written in lines (not paragraphs). Poems can be about anything — nature, feelings, animals, people! 🎶
Example

A Simple Poem

Rain, Rain ☔ Rain, rain, falling down, Splashing puddles on the ground. Drip, drop, drip, drop, hear the sound, Raindrops dancing all around! The rhyming words are: down/ground/sound/around
Note

Writing Your Own Poem

Choose a topic you like. Think of rhyming words. Write short lines. Read it aloud — does it have a nice beat? You can also write poems that don't rhyme — just paint a picture with words! 🖌️

PoemA piece of writing with rhythm, often with rhyme
