Pictographs
Read and draw pictographs to represent data
What is a Pictograph? 📊
A pictograph uses small pictures or symbols to show data (information). Each picture stands for one or more objects. Pictographs help us compare information quickly.
Example
Reading a Pictograph
Favourite fruits in our class:
🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎 Apples — 5 children
🍌🍌🍌 Bananas — 3 children
🍊🍊🍊🍊 Oranges — 4 children
Which fruit is most popular? Apples! (5 pictures = most)
Example
Making a Pictograph
Step 1: Collect data — ask friends their favourite colour
Step 2: Count the answers
Step 3: Draw one picture for each answer
Step 4: Give your pictograph a title!
Note
Remember 💡
In a pictograph, each picture must mean the same amount. Count the pictures carefully to find the total. Use a key to explain what each picture stands for.
