Punctuation

Use full stops, capital letters and question marks

Punctuation Marks

Punctuation marks are special symbols in writing. They tell us when to stop, when to pause, or when someone is asking a question. The main ones are the full stop (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). ✏️
Example

Using Punctuation

Full stop (.): 'I have a pet cat.' (a statement) Question mark (?): 'Do you like cats?' (asking something) Exclamation mark (!): 'Watch out!' (strong feeling or surprise) Capital letter: Always at the start → 'The sun is bright.' ☀️
Note

Remember

Every sentence MUST start with a capital letter. Every sentence MUST end with a punctuation mark. Read your work aloud — if your voice goes up at the end, you probably need a question mark! ❓
