Finalising the Writing Portfolio

The Grade 12 writing portfolio is submitted for moderation and forms a significant part of your SBA mark. It must contain a prescribed number of writing pieces including essays, transactional texts, and a literature essay. Each piece should demonstrate your best work after thorough editing and revision.
Example

Portfolio Contents Checklist

A typical Grade 12 HL writing portfolio includes: □ 2 essays (different types: narrative, reflective, descriptive, discursive, or argumentative) □ 2 transactional texts (different types: formal letter, review, speech, obituary, etc.) □ 1 literary essay (on a prescribed text) □ Cover page with name, grade, school, and year □ Table of contents with task descriptions and dates □ Each task should show evidence of the writing process (planning, drafts, feedback, final version).
Note

Quality Assurance

Before submitting: • Ensure all pieces meet the required length. • Check that each piece has been edited and proofread (no spelling/grammar errors). • Include the planning for each piece (mind map, outline). • Verify that the format requirements for transactional texts are correct. • Make sure the literary essay includes properly integrated quotations. • Present the portfolio neatly — first impressions matter.
