Isometric Drawing
Draw 3D objects using isometric projection
Drawing in 3D
Isometric drawing shows 3D objects on paper using a specific technique: draw along three axes at 30° from the horizontal. This creates a realistic-looking 3D image while keeping true proportions. Isometric drawings are used alongside orthographic views to communicate designs clearly.
Example
How to Draw Isometric
Steps for isometric drawing:
1. Draw a vertical line (height)
2. Draw two lines at 30° from horizontal (width and depth)
3. All measurements are true length along the three axes
4. Vertical lines stay vertical
5. No lines converge to a vanishing point (unlike perspective)
Use an isometric grid or 30° set square
Curves: plot points on the isometric axes and connect
Note
Remember
Isometric vs Perspective: Isometric keeps true proportions (good for technical work). Perspective looks more natural (good for art). In technology, we use isometric for 3D views in design communication. Always draw construction lines lightly, then darken final lines.
Key Vocabulary

AxisA reference line along which measurements are taken
ProportionThe correct size relationship between parts
