Green technology and environmental responsibility

Green Technology

Sustainable technology meets present needs without harming future generations. Green technology reduces environmental impact through: renewable energy, recycling, biodegradable materials, energy efficiency and waste reduction. As a technologist, always consider environmental impact in your designs.
Example

Sustainable Design Principles

Design for sustainability: • Use renewable/recycled materials where possible • Design for energy efficiency (low power consumption) • Design for disassembly (can be taken apart for recycling) • Minimise waste in manufacturing • Consider the full lifecycle (from raw material to disposal) SA examples: solar water heaters, recycled plastic furniture, wind farms, biogas from waste
Note

Remember

Every design choice has environmental consequences. Ask: Where do materials come from? How much energy is used? What happens when the product is thrown away? Responsible technologists design products that serve people without destroying the planet. SA has great potential for green technology.
