The Bill of Rights
The South African Bill of Rights (Chapter 2 of the Constitution) protects the rights of all people in the country. Key rights include equality, human dignity, freedom of expression, education, healthcare, and the right to a safe environment.
Example
Rights and Violations
Right to equality: a school that refuses admission based on race violates this right. Right to education: every child must have access to basic education. Right to dignity: corporal punishment in schools is banned because it violates dignity.
Note
Remember
Rights come with responsibilities. You have the right to free speech, but the responsibility not to use hate speech. The South African Human Rights Commission investigates human rights violations.
