Mini-Business Project
Plan, operate and report on a mini-business
Running a Mini-Business Project
Grade 8 mini-business requires you to plan, operate and report on a real business over several weeks. You will apply everything you've learned: identifying opportunities, budgeting, marketing, record keeping, producing/selling and calculating profit. This is experiential learning at its best.
Example
Mini-Business Report Structure
1. Business concept: What you sell, why, target market
2. Business plan: Start-up costs, pricing, marketing plan
3. Financial records: Daily sales, expenses, receipts
4. Marketing evidence: Flyers, social media, signs
5. Financial statements: Income statement showing profit/loss
6. Reflection: What worked, what didn't, what you'd change
Keep ALL receipts and records — they are evidence of your work!
Note
Remember
The goal is LEARNING, not just profit. Document everything. Be honest in your reflection — admitting mistakes shows maturity. Work as a team but ensure everyone contributes equally. This project develops skills employers value: initiative, planning, financial literacy and problem-solving.
