Positive Self-Concept

Self-esteem, self-image, personal strengths

What is Self-Concept?

Self-concept is the way you see and think about yourself. It includes your self-image (how you see yourself), self-esteem (how you value yourself) and self-awareness (understanding your strengths and weaknesses). A positive self-concept helps you face challenges with confidence.

Building Self-Esteem

Self-esteem develops through: • Recognising your strengths and achievements • Setting and reaching realistic goals • Accepting your weaknesses and working on them • Surrounding yourself with supportive people • Using positive self-talk: 'I can do this' instead of 'I'm not good enough'
Example

Personal SWOT Analysis

Try analysing yourself: • Strengths: What am I good at? (e.g. I'm a good listener, I'm creative) • Weaknesses: What can I improve? (e.g. I get distracted easily) • Opportunities: What chances can I take? (e.g. joining a school club) • Threats: What holds me back? (e.g. fear of failure) Be honest — this is for YOU, not for marks!
Note

Remember

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Comparing yourself to others on social media often gives a false picture. Focus on being the best version of YOU. Your value does not depend on likes or followers.
