Operations with Decimal Fractions
We can add, subtract, multiply and divide decimal numbers. Line up decimal points for addition and subtraction. For multiplication, count total decimal places in the answer.

Multiplying Decimals
0.3 × 0.4:
Multiply: 3 × 4 = 12
Count decimal places: 1 + 1 = 2
Answer: 0.12
2.5 × 1.2:
25 × 12 = 300
Decimal places: 1 + 1 = 2
Answer: 3.00 = 3
Note
Remember
Line up decimal points when adding and subtracting. When multiplying, the answer has as many decimal places as the total decimal places in both numbers.
