Urban and Rural Areas

Urban areas are cities and towns with many buildings and services. Rural areas are countryside with farms and fewer services. Many people in SA move from rural to urban areas looking for jobs. This is called urbanisation.
Example

Comparing Urban and Rural

Urban: Many buildings, tarred roads, electricity, shops, hospitals Rural: Open spaces, dirt roads, farming, fewer services Push factors (why leave rural): no jobs, poor services Pull factors (why go to city): jobs, schools, hospitals
Note

Remember

Urbanisation creates challenges: overcrowding, informal settlements, traffic and pollution. But rural areas also face challenges: lack of services and limited jobs. SA needs balanced development in both areas.
