Multiplication Tables
Master multiplication tables up to 12 × 12
What is Multiplication?
Multiplication is a quick way to add equal groups. Instead of adding 4 + 4 + 4, we say 3 × 4 = 12 (three groups of four). By Grade 4 we need to know our times tables up to 12 × 12.
Example
Key Times Tables
2 × table: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24
5 × table: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60
9 × table trick: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90 (digits always add up to 9!)
Multiplication Strategies
Double and double again: 4 × 7 = 2 × 7 × 2 = 14 × 2 = 28.
Break apart: 6 × 8 = (6 × 5) + (6 × 3) = 30 + 18 = 48.
Swap order: 7 × 3 = 3 × 7 = 21 (the order doesn't matter!).
Note
Remember
The order of multiplication does not matter: 3 × 5 = 5 × 3. Any number times 1 stays the same. Any number times 0 is 0. Practice your tables every day!
