In Grade 2, we learn to count, read and write numbers up to 200. Numbers are everywhere — on houses, buses and in shops! We count in ones, twos, fives and tens to reach bigger numbers.

Counting in Tens 🧮

Count in tens: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190, 200! 🎉 Start at 135 and count forward: 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140. Start at 180 and count backward: 180, 179, 178, 177, 176, 175.

Place Value: Hundreds, Tens and Ones

Every number has digits in different places: • 153 → 1 hundred, 5 tens, 3 ones • 200 → 2 hundreds, 0 tens, 0 ones The place of a digit tells us its value!

Remember 💡

When we write numbers, the order matters! 12 and 21 are different numbers. Always check: hundreds first, then tens, then ones.
