Reflective, narrative and descriptive essays
Writing Portfolio Essays
The Grade 11 writing portfolio includes reflective, narrative, and descriptive essays. Each essay demonstrates your ability to write with sophistication, creativity, and control. The portfolio is assessed as part of your School-Based Assessment (SBA) and contributes to your final mark.
Example
Reflective Essay Approach
Topic: 'A moment that changed my perspective.'
Introduction: Set the scene with a compelling opening — use in medias res (starting in the middle of the action) or a thought-provoking statement.
Body: Describe the experience, explore your emotions, and reflect on its significance.
Conclusion: Show how the experience changed you and what you learned.
Use introspective language: 'I realised...', 'Looking back...', 'This experience taught me...'
