Language in Context

Language in context questions test your ability to apply grammatical knowledge within a given passage. Areas include sentence types, word meaning (synonyms, antonyms, homonyms), editing, rewriting sentences, and understanding figures of speech in context.

Common Question Types

1. Give a synonym for the word 'diligent' as used in paragraph 2. → hardworking 2. Rewrite the following sentence in the passive voice: The committee approved the proposal. → The proposal was approved by the committee. 3. Identify the figure of speech: 'Time is money.' → Metaphor — time is compared to money to show its value. 4. Correct the concord error: The team of players were celebrating. → The team of players was celebrating. (collective noun = singular verb)

Read the entire passage before answering language questions — context matters. For vocabulary questions, use the surrounding sentences to determine meaning. For rewriting tasks, check that your answer makes grammatical sense and retains the original meaning. Show all changes clearly.
